My Tale to Date
Butter and Cream is always better than milk and margarine.
I want to take something simple to another level.
The end of a partnership brought an end to Cake & Candy Dandy. Deeper self understanding, and in retrospect, brought new insights into what gets me out of bed, what I love to do & do well, giving birth to “Butter and Cream”.
Covid-19 created havoc on the wedding industry but gave me the opportunity to spend hours refining and learning new skills. We’ve “rolled” with the punches, lockdowns and loadshedding.
I learnt to make sugar flowers & decoration without a glass of wine for months on end and discovered a love for all things wafer paper.
I love decorating cakes & making decorations.
While baking is not my first love, over almost 25 years of baking the family birthday cakes I have learnt the skills, tips and techniques to be a competent baker.
I have used the lull in wedding seasons to enter international cake competitions and I am very proud of how my cakes were received by the judges. 2020, I entered Crystal Candy’s Cake Champions competition – 1 tier wonder category and placed 3rd. In 2021, I again entered Cake Champions but in the wedding cake category, I received one of two silver awards.
I also entered Bybora’s Cake Star competition – Crazy cakes category, I progressed to the finals as South Africa’s entrant.
This surprises most people who know me as I am my own harshest critic. I repainted the green tier of my Christmas cake 3 times until I was almost happy. The gold bow has 4 shades of gold…. It might not look like it in the photo, but if you see the bow in the right light, it looks alive!
